This is the Dondero Quarry, long abandoned, near Jackson, CA where my 300-pound California marble block came from. We hiked in for a mile on a dirt road to reach the quarry. Imagine hauling large blocks of marble out on a wagon pulled by mules. Some of the marble was used in San Francisco and Stanford University.
